Bible-reading

During Holy Week (the week leading up to Easter), I decided to do something a little different and I had posted devotional content every day on our Facebook page (click here!). It seemed to be well received with the number of people it “reached,” some of the “likes” and some of the real-world comments I received. This leads me to believe that there are plenty of people who desire devotional material – and, knowing that not everyone spends their lives in a christian bookstore (the Open Door has some really comfy couches – I need to get back there again!), I would like to offer a couple of suggestions.

First off is the Upper Room. This is a daily devotional that you can find on the information table in the back of the sanctuary. It is a periodical devotional magazine that the church orders copies of. Each magazine covers 2 months of daily devotionals that are written by a number of different people with many different backgrounds, experiences and stories that they share. If you would like more information on The Upper Room, click here for the online daily devotional.

Another option I would like to share with you is www.Bible.com. This is an awesome resource and one that I use on a daily basis. This site and its apps for both Android and iOS devices gives you access to several translations of the Bible. It also has (literally) hundreds of devotional and reading plans that you can follow, everything from topical to seasonal devotionals, tons of reading plans to follow… Essentially, a devotional series for nearly any mood you find yourself in! The devotionals that I posted during Holy Week were from one of the devotionals on Bible.com. It also helps you keep track of your progress in the reading and devotional plans regardless of what device you’re on. As long as you’re signed into your Bible.com account (which is free, by the way!) you can pick up where you left off on your reading plan on your phone, tablet or computer. You can even have reminders sent to you to read your plan!

These are just a couple of tools / ideas to help you with your daily spiritual daily exercise of getting into the word. What is most important is what works for you to get into the Word and come closer to Jesus.
